Apparently, I got a clearer answer about how winter coats affect the back of the hair once I stopped overhandling the curls. Bringing the hair forward kept the nape from rubbing against my coat as much. Leaving it trapped under the collar created tangles fast.

Looking at it from different angles changed how I judged how the curls look after sleeping in a bonnet. My smaller bonnet flattened the top and made the morning refresh harder. Once I adjusted that part, a roomy satin bonnet kept the curls from getting crushed as much overnight. I stopped checking it after that. I would rather fix one small thing than keep piling on product.

Low-bun placement underneath the cap changed how the nape sat. I paid more attention to low bun underneath than I expected. A very flat low bun worked in a pinch and still let me get out the door. The back felt slightly fuller than when I wear cornrows. The good part is I did not have to restart the style; one small change was enough. The look felt more like me.
