Eventually, the real-life test told me more about how visible the knots look up close than the first mirror check. The knots were fine from normal distance once I styled the curls around the part. Under bright light I could still see a few spots I wanted to soften. That is the version I would wear again.

After a full wear, I had a much better sense of what happens to the curls under a hood or hat. Lifting the roots with my fingers brought most of the volume back. Once I adjusted that part, a hood flattened the top more than I liked but did not ruin the curl pattern. That was enough for me. I would rather fix one small thing than keep piling on product.
